The Kerala Box Office saw the release of three films on 6 July - namely Malayalam films Karinkunnam Sixes and Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum and Bollywood film Sultan.
Sultan
As expected, the Salman Khan-starrer overtook both the Malayalam films on the opening day, with theatres reporting an occupancy of 70% for the sports drama. The film has also bagged more screens than Karinkunnam Sixes. Early reports suggest that the advance booking for Sultan for the late night shows, especially at the Cochin multiplexes, helped the film put up record numbers on its opening day.
Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum
The Kunchacko Boban-Jayasurya starrer Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum, which released on 90 screens, has opened to an average response from the audience. While the matinee shows recorded decent collections, the reviews of the film are mixed. The collections of the film are bound to take a hit with the release of two more Malayalam films on 7 July - including the much-anticipated Mammootty-starrer Kasaba.
Karinkunnam Sixes
Manju Warrier's Karinkunnam Sixes opened to low collections as the film released on 49 screens. However, the Deepu Karunakaran has garnered positive reviews - a factor that may translate into higher collections over its lifetime run.
