Two Malayalam films, Darwinte Parinamam and Ithu Thanda Police opened to audiences on 18 March. As expected, the Prithviraj-Chandini Sreedharan-starrer Darwinte Parinamam won the Box Office battle.

1) Darwinte Parinamam

The second Prithviraj release of the year, the Jijo Antony-directed, Darwinte Parinamam, opened to Rs 1.61 crores at the Box Office - and emerged the biggest opener of 2016.

However Saturday shows witnessed major drop in the collections, owing to the much-anticipated T20 match between India and Pakistan.

The film gained momentum on Sunday and helped the Prithviraj-starrer record a healthy opening weekend - raking up close to Rs 4.55 crores. The opening collections are close to the weekend numbers of super hit films like Action Hero Biju and Maheshinte Prathikaram.

The weekday collections of the film will determine if Prithviraj deliver his 5th consecutive super hit in Darwinte Parinamam.

2) Ithu Thaanda Police

The Asif Ali-starrer Ithu Thanda Police fared poorly at the Box Office. The film, touted to be an action comedy entertainer, also marks the Mollywood comeback of Abhirami and Janani Iyer after a two-year gap. However their comeback film has met with negative response at the Box Office.

On the opening day, the film opened to low occupancy with collection figures of Rs 0.40 lakh. The total collection of the film after the first weekend is almost Rs 1 crore. The clash with Prithviraj's Darwinte Parinamam has also worked against the film.

3) Action Hero Biju[/subheading]

The Nivin Pauly-starrer managed to draw crowds even on its 6th weekend at the Box Office. The film managed to collect Rs 0.70 lakh and now has Box Office collections of Rs 14.10 crore. The film, already a super hit, is all set to break the 15 crore mark - set by the biggest hit of the year so far, Pavada. The film will complete it's glorious 50 days on 24 March.

4) Maheshinte Prathikaram

The super-hit film Maheshinte Prathikaram, is nearing the end of its Box Office run with nearly Rs 13.75 crore. The Fahadh Faasil film is the third biggest hit of 2016 after Pavada and Action Hero Biju.

5) Puthiya Niyamam
