Kerala Box Office: Mammootty's Masterpiece unseats Mohanlal's Villain, but fails to beat Thalapathy Vijay​ blockbuster​ Mersal

Malayalam superstar Mammootty's Masterpiece released on 21 December and as expected, the mass-entertainer has opened to a fabulous start at the ticket windows across the Kerala Box Office.

Catch had previously reported that Mohanlal's October release Villain emerged as the all-time highest opener in the history of Malayalam cinema.

And now, the Mammootty starrer unseats Mohanlal's Villain to become the highest Malayalam opener at the Kerala Box Office. On it's opening day, Masterpiece had minted Rs. 5.11 crore to do the same.

However, Masterpeice fails to beat the Rs. 6.11 crore record set by Thalapathy Vijay's Diwali blockbuster Mersal at the Kerala Box Office.

Directed by 2014 hit Mammootty starrer Rajadhi Radha fame Ajai Vasudev and produced by CH Muhammed of Royal Cinemas, Masterpiece also stars an ensemble star cast including Unni Mukundan, Santhosh Pandit, Mukesh, Salim Kumar, Maqbool Salmaan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Poonam Bajwa and Mahima Nambiar.

1) Baahubali 2 : Rs. 6.27 crore
2) Mersal : Rs. 6.11 crore
3) Masterpiece : Rs. 5.11 crore
4) Villain : Rs. 4.91 crore
5) The Great Father : Rs. 4.31 crore
