The much-awaited Malayalam Eid film, Kasaba released today. The film marks the comeback of superstar Mammootty in his best-loved avatar - that of a police officer after a long time. The film is the debut vehicle of Nithin Renji Panicker, the son of screenwriter-turned-actor Renji Panicker. The film also marked the Mollywood debut of Kannada actresses Neha Saxena and Varalakshmi Sarath Kumar, the daughter of Tamil actor Sarath Kumar.
As per early reports, Kasaba has witnessed a strong opening across all centers in Kerala. The response to the regular morning shows (9am shows) was fabulous and many cinema halls displayed the house full boards, which is very rare for Malayalam films. At some centres, the film is doing good business despite rains.
The film has been praised for Mammooty's performance in the role of a circle Inspector in the film. The film is touted as a complete mass masala entertainer with equal doses of action, comedy, and thrills.
The film has been released on 120 screens and should hold well on the four-day-weekend to post some good numbers at the Box Office. It will be interesting to see how Kasaba will perform from Monday as mass entertainers normally don't get much support from the family audience. Mammootty's previous big mass entertainer, Gangster, was a huge failure at the Box Office.
