Vineeth Sreenivasan's Jacobinte Swargarajyam released on 8 April 2016. The film, starring Renji Panicker in the titular role of Jacob, is inspired by the life of a Dubai-based NRI businessman named Jacob Zachariah.

The latest update arriving from the Malayalam industry is that the family entertainer has emerged the biggest hit of the year. The Nivin Pauly-starrer has crossed the coveted Rs 20 crore mark to become the highest Box Office grosser of the year. It is a remarkable achievement considering the fact that Jacobinte Swargarajyam released in just 80 cinemas during the opening weekend.

The family entertainer also faced tough competition from Vijay's Theri, which released one week after the Malayalam release and the Hollywood fantasy adventure, The Jungle Book 3D. However, with its strong family content and terrific word-of-mouth, Jacobinte Swargarajyam overpowered both films at the Box Office.

"I would like to thank the audience for receiving our film, Jacobinte Swargarajyam with open arms. I hope whoever saw the film will go back to home and sit with their family in hall or dining room without their phones or any personal gadgets. Instead, just sit with their family....!

Jacobinte Swargarajyam was highly praised for its direction, good music, and the performances of all the characters, especially Renji Panicker, Nivin Pauly, and Ashwin Kumar, who made his debut as the main antagonist of the film.

Meanwhile, Jacobinte Swargarajyam is Nivin Pauly's fourth film to cross the Rs. 20 crore mark at Kerala Box Office after Bangalore days, Oru Vadakkan Selfie, and Premam. The actor's first release of the year, Action Hero Biju was also a huge box office success.
