1 year of Srimanthudu: 8 interesting facts about the Mahesh Babu-Shruti Haasan blockbuster

Today, 7 August 2016 marks the one-year anniversary of Telugu film release, Srimanthudu. The Mahesh Babu-Shruti Haasan starrer was directed by Koratala Siva and was a huge blockbuster at the Box Office. Srimanthudu also starred Jagapati Babu, Sukanya, Sithara, and Mukes Rishi.

A whole 365 days after it first hit the screens, here are eight interesting facts about the Mahesh Babu blockbuster.

1) Srimanthudu is touted as the second all-time highest Tollywood grosser after Baahubali: The Beginning. The film is also the only second Telugu film to cross the coveted Rs. 200 crore at Box Office.

2) Srimanthudu was initially slated to release on 17 July 2015, exactly one week after the release of Baahubali. However, the release date of film was postponed to 7 August 2015 after a personal request by Shobu Yarlagadda, the producer of Baahubali to do the same.

3) Srimanthudu was released in Santiago, the capital of Chile, to become the first Indian film to be screened in a Latin American country.

4) Srimanthudu collected around USD 2.1 million in the first weekend and became the second highest-grossing Telugu film of all time to cross the magical USD 2 million-mark abroad after Baahubali: The Beginning.

5) Srimanthudu had registered a massive TRP rating of 21.24, the third-highest rating ever for a Telugu film after Magadheera and Baahubali: The Beginning (which registered TRP ratings of 22.00 and 21.84, respectively)

6) Following the success of Srimanthudu, Mahesh Babu's next release, Brahmotsavam's overseas rights had been sold for a huge Rs 13 crore. The film has beaten the record of another upcoming biggie featuring superstar Pawan Kalyan -- Sardaar Gabbar Singh -- which was sold for Rs 10.5 crore. The Mahesh Babu starrer also broke 2015 blockbuster Baahubali's Rs 9 crore record by a huge margin.

7) For Srimanthudu, Mahesh Babu won both the best actor awards at Filmfare awards and SIIMA awards respectively while Shruti Haasan won the best actress award at Filmfare awards.Music director Devi Sriprasad had also bagged the best music award at both Filmfare and SIIM for Srimanthudu.

8) Srimanthudu had inspired many police officers and district level officers of Telangana to adopt more than 500 panchayats in the state.
