In yet another shocking incidence of violence against animals, a woman allegedly bashed eight newborn puppies against a boulder in Bengaluru's Krishnanagar area on 15 March. It is the third case of reported brutality against animals in the last few days.

On Sunday, CCTV footage of a man stabbing three dogs and killing a puppy mercilessly outside the Green Park metro station in south Delhi was circulated across news media.

Bengaluru police have registered a case against the woman, Ponnammma. She has been booked for cruelty towards animals under various sections. It is reported that Ponnamma, who is a wife of an ex-honorary flight lieutenant, took this extreme step to teach the puppies' mother a lesson as the bitch had given birth inside a drain under her gate.

The media reports suggest that seven out of the eight puppies dies on the spot while the last one succumbed later. The incident left the neighbours furious. They buried the newly-born puppies and also registered a complaint against Ponnamma.

Recently, another case that highlighted animal cruelty in the country was when BJP MLA Ganesh Joshi brutally assaulted a police horse and broke one of his legs.
