Weird! Delhi man along with friends loot cab driver to celebrate girlfriend's birthday; here’s what happens next

In a bizarre incident, a man along with his friends allegedly robbed a cab driver at gunpoint in Delhi. Following which on Monday three of the accused were arrested. The accused then confessed that they robbed the cab driver to fund his girlfriends birthday.

The cab driver told police that four people booked a ride in his car and robbed of his valuables by four people in the early hours of March 30, an official said.


Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said, Three of the accused, Gurpreet Singh (19), Aakash (22) and Jasveer Singh (24), were arrested the next day after police got information that they were roaming in Bindapur area.

The interrogation revealed that Jasveer had briefly worked with a cab aggregator as driver however, he was thrown out for his inappropriate activities and complaints from the passengers.

Jasveer on March 30, planned to celebrate his girlfriend’s birthday but didn’t have enough money. After discussion with his friends, they decided to rob a cab for money and also to exact revenge on the aggregator, he said.

The DCP said, accused used an old SIM card to book the cab at about 2 am on March 30. When the cab arrived, Gurpreet sat on the front seat and the other three occupied the seats at the back.

They after some time asked the driver to stop the car and robbed the driver on gunpoint. When Gurpreet tried to take control of the keys, it broke and they had to abandon their plan of taking the car. Gurpreet had been arrested earlier in a murder case and had been in jail for a few months, the officer said.
