In the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, the campaigning trail has begun and the political rhetoric is again stooping to a low as the Samajwadi Party leader Firoz Khan has made controversial remarks over the BJP leader Jaya Prada, who is all set to contest polls from Rampur.

Firoz Khan, while commenting upon Jaya Prada joining the BJP and contesting against senior SP leader Azam Khan, said, “Rampur ki shaamein rangeen ho jaayengi ab jab chunavi mahual chalega.”

On Tuesday, former SP leader and actor-turned politician Jaya Prada joined the BJP in Delhi and was later on declared as the BJP’s candidate from the Rampur constituency, which is being contested by Samajwadi Party’s Azam Khan, who will be making his debut in the Lok Sabha.

Earlier, BJP leader Sanghmitra Maurya, who is the daughter of the UP Minister SP Maurya, had said, “Apna aashirwaad mujhe dain, agar aapke beech koi gundagardi karane aata hai toh un gundon se bhi badi gundi Sanghamitra ban jaayegi agar kisi ne yahan par aapke samman, swabhimaan ke saath khilwad karne ki koshish ki.”

Taking a jibe over this remark, Firoz Khan had further commented and said, “Ab koi (BJP's Sanghamitra Maurya) apne ko gundi batade koi naachne ka kaam kare woh unka apna pesha hai.”

Uttar Pradesh is set to witness the polls in seven phases, starting from April 11 and it will be a triangular contest between the SP-BSP alliance, the BJP and the infighting Congress. The results of the election will be declared on May 23.
