Video: Shocking! Kerala couple abandons two-day-old baby at Kochi's church and the reason will blow your mind

In a horrifying incident, a couple was caught abandoning their newborn baby in a church in Kochi's Edappally area. The complete incident was caught on CCTV camera outside the church, said police. The couple were held later and stated that they abandoned their fourth child in fear that they would be shamed socially for it. The police tracked down the couple, who have four children including the abandoned infant from Wadakkancherry area in Thrissur.

Bitto (32) and his wife Prabitha (28), from Thrissur, were seen in the footage abandoning the baby at St George Forane Church in Edappally on Saturday evening, the police said. The security staff of the church found the baby at around 8.30 pm on Saturday and immediately alerted the police.


The CCTV footage aired by television channels and circulated on social media showed the father of the child leaving the baby in the premises of St George Forane Church late evening on Friday. In the video, the father can be seen kissing the baby on its forehead before placing it on the church floor.

The woman, who is the mother of the baby allegedly joined her husband in abandoning the baby before being discharged from the Government Medical College Hospital in Thrissur, where the baby was born, reported NDTV.

Police sources say, during the preliminary probe, Bitto told the investigators, that the locals allegedly ridiculed them for Prabitha was often pregnant. A detailed investigation will be now be done to reach a conclusion, said the police.

Later, the baby was rushed to a private hospital after the incident. As per hospital sources, the infant was healthy.
