7 years after rape attempt, UP court hands out 5 year jail sentence

A young man from Uttar Pradesh has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by a court for attempting to rape a woman.
Additional Sessions Court Manoj Kumar convicted Vinit Pandey and also slapped a fine of Rs 8,000 on him.
According to prosecution, Pandey attempted to rape a 21-year-old woman in her house at Kandhla town in neighbouring Shamli district on 10 December, 2008.
The victim's brother had lodged a complaint in the matter.
