In a shocking incident, a 9-month-old baby boy died after being allegedly given polio drops in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda, reported news agency ANI. According to reports, the district administration has launched an investigation into the incident. Banda DM H Lal said strict action will be action against people responsible.
“It’s unfortunate, this is first the time such a thing has happened. I will constitute a committee to investigate the matter. Appropriate action will be taken against the guilty,” DM H Lal said.
The incident comes days after two infants died and 32 were hospitalised in Hyderabad after vaccination after they were being administered the wrong vaccine.
Taking note on the matter, the health ministry had monitored the situation and asked the surveillance team in Uttar Pradesh to trace all children who were given the vaccine. The poliovirus type 2 strain has been eradicated worldwide, including in India.
