In the midst of Lok Sabha election, the BJP is leaving no stone unturned in carrying on the narrative and agenda it had set in 2014 polls and UP CM Yogi Adityanath has been rallying in Congress’ bastion Amethi as Smriti Irani files her nomination today.

Contesting in the home turf of Rahul Gandhi, Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani had lost the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by a margin of more than one lakh votes but was inducted in the Centre via the Rajya Sabha.

Rahul Gandhi, who is contesting on two seats in this election, one from his traditional Amethi and the other from Wayanad in Kerala, is hoping to win both the constituencies in this poll, but he is facing anti-incumbency in Amethi, from where he has been a member of parliament since 2004 and it was the BJP which won the Amethi Assembly seat in 2017 UP election.

Smriti Irani, while taking a jibe at the Gandhi scion had said, “Do not support those who dream of disintegrating the country and dividing the society. This will weaken the country, Amethi has given me respect as an elder sister and not as a candidate. I believe that serving Amethi is my param dharam (prime duty). All you should be cautious of the Congress.”

Amethi goes to poll on May 6, in the fifth phase of polling. The district Amethi, which is attached to Sultanpur, where BJP has fielded Maneka Gandhi, has four assembly segments - Tiloi, Gauriganj and Jagdishpur (reserved). The result of election will be declared on May 23.
