On 13 December, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, approved the much awaited recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission for salaries of state government employees.

With the UP Assembly polls just around the corner, the Samajwadi Party is expected to table another supplementary budget in the Assembly session that begins on 21 December.

As per the recommendation of the Central Pay Commission, state employees are set to get approximately a 25% hike in their salaries.

While the implementation of the 7th pay commission will add a burden of Rs 24,000 crore on the state government, this move will benefit about 21 lakh state employees, teachers, and pensioners of the state just ahead of the polls.
