Union Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on 6 August inaugurated Townhall in New Delhi's Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex, to mark the second anniversary of citizen engagement portal MyGov.in.

Town Hall as a concept is commonly used in the West among politicians as well as CEOs to interact with people directly.

Speaking on the occasion, Prasad said MyGov has 35.2 lakh registered members.

The minister added that the achievements of ordinary people of the country must be given positive space on the MyGov platform.

The portal was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2014 to provide opportunities to people to participate in multiple-theme based discussions and share their thoughts.

Prime Minister Modi will interact with the nation in the evening at the Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex, New Delhi in a first-ever Townhall by an Indian prime minister.

A new PMO app, which will enable mobile users to connect with the Indian Prime Minister's website, will also be launched at the mega event.

Various stakeholders including Cabinet ministers, senior officers from Ministries and Departments, government organisations, representatives from the media, IT and social media industry and citizens who have participated in the MyGov initiatives will participate in the event.
