Four Tihar inmates killed an under-trial in a high risk ward of the prison complex on 11 August. The incident happened over a small monetary dispute.

The incident occurred last night when Dipak, lodged in the high risk ward, was allegedly beaten with iron rods procured from a window, by his four cellmates including a lifer, a source said.

The undertrial was rushed to DDU hospital where he died at around 11.30 pm.

The accused Satpal Bedi, Manpreet Singh, Riyaz and Suraj allegedly thrashed Dipak with iron rods as he did not meet their demands of money, the source said.

Satpal has been given life sentence while Manpreet has two murder cases against him including one inside the jail.

Riyaz is accused in a murder case while Suraj has six cases against him, said a jail official.

"The concerned police officials and magistrate were informed about the death of Dipak and a case has been registered at Hari Nagar police station," added the official.
