Tamil Nadu: Heavy rain lashes southern districts, flood alerts issued; schools closed in Chennai

Flood alerts have been issued in many districts in Tamil Nadu.

Southern districts of Tirunelveli Thoothukudi and interior districts of Theni, Dindugul and Tirupur are witnessing heavy rain.

According to the All India Radio, a holiday has been announced for schools in Chennai, Thanjavur, Dindugul, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Nagai. More than 10,000 lorry transport service to Chennai, Puducherry and Cuddalore have been badly affected because of heavy rain according to All India Motor Transport Congress.

This fresh bout of rains will affect ongoing relief operations as the city is making efforts to limp back to normalcy.
