Suspects arrested for Naxal-connection in Bhima Koregaon Violence case including a JNU alumnus

A man was arrested by the joint operation of the Pune Police and Delhi Police today. The person was arrested for his alleged connection with the with the Bhima Koregaon violence in Pune. Police raided his flat in Munirka during the morning time. Delhi police assisted Pune Police for making the arrest successful, it was reported that suspected person could possibly have connection with Naxalites.

What is Bhima Koregain Violence case


An eveent was organised on 1st january to mark the 200th anniversary of the Bhima Koregaon battle in this battle the Peshwa army was defeated by the British army on January 1, 1818. Due to the violence several people were injured ncluding 10 policemen which led to the death of one person.

In an early morning operation today, Pune police arrested five activists in a joint operation with Delhi Police. Rona Wilson, an activist and JNU alumnus is also arrested in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon violence on January 1. Wilson was picked up from Delhi, Dalit activist Sudhir Dhawale was arrested in Mumbai. Activists Shoma Sen, Mahesh Raut, and lawyer Surendra Gadling were arrested from Nagpur.

Official said in a statement, We have been able to establish the money trail between these Naxal sympathisers and Naxals ahead of the Elgar Parishad in Pune on December 31, 2017. Offences were registered against some of these activists including Dhawale in January only for the violence that broke out in Bhima-Koregaon on 1 January that we believe their inflammatory speeches at the Elgar Parishad triggered. We have accumulated more evidence in the last few months and have a stronger case now,”.
