The Supreme Court on 30 October adjourned the hearing of plea seeking reinvestigation into Mahatma Gandhi assassination case for four weeks as Amicus Curiae Amrender Sharan sought more time to file his reply.

The highest court has ordered the Amicus Curiae to examine the legal validity of the plea, and asked both the sides to clarify their locus standi in the matter.

Mahatma Gandhi's great grandson, Tushar Gandhi has opposed the plea, questioning, what is the need for the plea after so many decades.

Earlier on October 6, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking re-investigation in the assassination case of Mahatma Gandhi.

The apex court has asked former Additional Solicitor General Amarendra Sharan to assist the court as amicus curiae in the case.

The PIL has been filed by a Mumbai-based IT Consultant Pankaj Kumudchandra Phadnis.

According to reports, an earlier petition of Phadnis seeking reopening of the Gandhi murder case was dismissed by a High Court earlier.
