Samajwadi Party women wing president Shweta Singh resigned from the party on Tuesday.

Shweta contested election in the recently concluded polls from Lucknow East seat.

She was appointed as the president of women wing on February 21, 2016.

Shweta replaced Geeta, who was appointed to the post in July 2014.

She was believed to be the loyalist of Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav's.

Earlier on February 2, Shivpal said the Samajwadi veteran would soon take a decision on launching a new party.

Shivpal's statement came a day after Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav blamed his son and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for the party's debacle in the state assembly elections.
