Angry workers of the Samajwadi Party and supporters of Shivpal Singh Yadav took to the streets of Etawah to stage a protest against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The veteran leader's supporters have been agitating since 15 September. The protesters raised slogans like "Shivpal Singh ko sasamman vapas lo" and "Mulayam Singh ko CM banao",

Shivpal submitted his resignation to party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, while his wife Sarla resigned from the post of District Cooperative Bank Chairperson, Etawah. His son Aditya quit as the Chairman of Pradeshik Cooperative Federation.

Markets in Jaswantnagar - the Assembly constituency of Shivpal - also remained closed as the protest was staged on the roads in the area.

Shivpal's supporters also gathered at the leader's residence in Lucknow on 16 September. They raised slogans against party national general secretary Ramgopal Yadav.
