A cylinder blast aboard Naval diving support ship INS Nireekshak has claimed the right leg of a sailor of the Indian Navy, also injuring two others.
The ship returned to port around midnight on 16 April and the three sailors were shifted to a military hospital.
The right leg of one of the sailors had to be amputated above the knee while the two others were treated for splinter injuries.
The sailors were initially admitted to a hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, but later shifted to Mumbai.
The condition of all three sailors is said to be stable now.
An enquiry has been ordered into the incident.
