Indian cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar is set to become the face of the Kerala government's campaign against drug and liquor abuse.

State Excise Minister T P Ramakrishnan on 28 September said in the state Assembly that Tendulkar has agreed to be a part of the drive as per the request of the CPI(M)-led LDF government.

"Sachin has agreed to be part of our drive. We are planning to make him take part in the activities of anti-narcotic clubs in state schools," he said during the Question Hour.

The government has also plans to set up an awareness mission to strengthen and coordinate various anti-drug and liquor abuse campaigns, Ramakrishnan said.

The Kerala government had discussed with Tendulkar about the campaign when he met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the state Secretariat here in June. Vijayan had then said that the cricket legend had given consent to use his name to strengthen the campaign against liquor and drug abuse in the state.
