Sabarimala Row: Supreme Court to hear petitions against it's verdict today on women's entry to temple

The Supreme Court will be going to hear the petitions today which are challenging its decision over the entry of women of all ages into Kerala’s Sabarimala temple.

The apex court is likely to talk up the decision over 50 pleas seeking the review of its verdict.

The hearing will be done after the people were protesting on large scale against the SC judgement.

On 28th September, the constitution bench headed by the former Chief Justice Dipak Misra, in its 4:1 verdict had lifted the ban on the entry of women aged between 10 and 50 into the Sabarimala temple by saying that it had promoted the gender discrimination.

As soon as the judgement come, it had faced a lot of opposed in the state as devotees were claiming that the decision had attacked the centuries-old traditions of the temple, whose presiding deity, Lord Ayyappa.

Today, the constitution bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices RF Nariman, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra will review around a batch of 48 petitions, reported PTI.

Earlier on 9th October, the top court had declined to hear the review plea contending that five-judge Constitution bench’s verdict lifting the ban was irrational. However, it had decided to review the petitions on 13th November.
