After a long tussle, the Haryana Police have arrested the main accused in the connection with the alleged gang-rape of CBSE topper from Rewari on Sunday. The main accused, who allegedly planned the kidnap and gang-rape of a 19-year-old second-year college student in Haryana reportedly called a doctor. The police said after the victim's condition worsened the accused called up the doctor.

Nishu called up one Dr Sanjeev when he realised that the teenager's condition had worsened, police officer Nazneen Bhasin said on Sunday. Later, Dr Sanjeev and another man who owned the property, where the student was allegedly gang-raped, were arrested.

Two other accused, including an Army man, is yet to be arrested and police said raids were being done to trace them.

The police, however, say that the doctor too may have been involved in the teenager's rape. "The doctor was there when the rape happened and didn't inform any authority points to the fact that he didn't take correct legal action. Evidence also points out that he was involved in the act as well. Further forensics will clear the matter," Ms Bhasin said.

Speaking on the gang-rape case, Rahul Sharma, Rewari Superintendent of Police (SP) on Monday said that the safety of the victim is one of the main concerns.

“Safety of victim is one of the main concern, arresting remaining accused is another. It doesn't end with arrest but with convection of the accused. So securing evidence and ensuring they get convicted through fast track court would be the next step,” ANI quoted Rewari SP as saying.

“I just met the victim, proceeding to the crime scene and I'll be meeting SIT soon. As and when any progress is made we'll keep you updated. So far we've arrested one of the main accused and our teams are working to arrest the remaining accused,” Sharma added.

Meanwhile, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar has urged the public not to harbour the culprits.

"Police have been directed to take strict action in the case. The other two accused in the case will also be arrested soon. Appeal to the public to not harbour them. Strict legal action will be taken against those who harbour them," Khattar said.
