#ReturnedAwards: 2 Padma awards, 10 National Film Awards, 44 Sahitya Akademi awards

More and more sections of the population are joining the protest against rising intolerance in the country with scientist PM Bhargava being the latest and the first one from the scientific community.

The one reason that has prompted all awardees to return awards from varied sections of the society is the rising intolerance in the country. They have perceived the murder of rationalist MM Kalburgi, the beef killings and the prevailing atmosphere of communal tension as symptomatic of intolerance in the country.

Many writers, poets and filmmakers have already returned their awards.
