In the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, the countdown has begun and the political rallies are taking toll with their poll promises. During the campaign trail, Congress’ Priyanka Gandhi was requested by the party workers to contest the election, to which the leader replied, ‘Party will decide, and why not from Varanasi.’

The 47-year-old leader, who visited Amethi on Wednesday, cleared the air about her contesting the General Election and said, ‘If my party wants me to contest polls then I will definitely do so,’ adding that ‘Why not Varanasi?’ as reported by IANS.

Priyanka Gandhi is scheduled to visit Ayodhya today, where she will offer preayers at Hanumangadhi and then will hold a roadshow till Kumarganj in Faizabad.

Earlier, when Congress inculcated Priyanka Gandhi into the party, it was being speculated that she might contest the polls either from Rae Bareli or Amethi but both the seats are being contested by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi respectively.

Uttar Pradesh is set to vote in all seven phases and the Congress party is up for a triangular contest in the state, which will be between the SP-BSP-RLD alliance and the BJP. The voting will begin of April 11 and the results will be announced on May 23.
