Police officials inspect APJ Abdul Kalam memorial

News Agencies | Updated on: 19 July 2017, 16:37 IST

Top police officials on 19 July inspected the memorial of former president APJ Abdul Kalam here as part of security preparations ahead of its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 27 July.

Inspector General of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav, DIG Pradip Kumar and District Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena went around the memorial and the venue.

They also inspected the helipad set up for the Prime Minister's visit.

BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan had said Modi would inaugurate the memorial built in memory of Kalam here, his native place, coinciding with the second death anniversary of the late 'missile man'.

The memorial, foundation stone for which was laid on July 27 last year, has been built by the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) with which Kalam had been associated with for a long time. Land for it has been allocated by the Tamil Nadu government.
