PM Modi's address to nation on lockdown: Top highlights of story

Just when Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday prolonged the nationwide lockdown till 3rd May, he also asked for people’s support in the battle against the Covid-19 in the country.

PM Modi also stated that all districts, localities, states will be meticulously observed on how strictly they are carrying-out norms of the lockdown till 3rd March.


“States which will not let hotspots increase will be allowed to let some important activities resume, but with certain conditions,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s address coam on a day India recorded 10,363 Sars-CoV-2 cases and 339 demises.

Key highlights of PM Modi’s address:

1. "India will have to extend the lockdown till May 3".

2. "Essential activities may be allowed in these areas which show improvement after April 20 in coronavirus fight."

3. "We must ensure that new hotspots do not spring up. Hotspots will see enhanced lockdown measures. For this, the nation will face stricter lockdown measures till April 20".

4. Need your support in seven things: Take care of those vulnerable in the family, follow the lockdown rules, social distancing norms, make sure you to take measures to boost your immunity suggested by Ayush Ministry, download Arogya Setu app, help the poor, ensure provisions for them, show empathy towards those working with you, don't fire people, those at the forefront in fight against coronavirus - doctors, health officials, policemen... respect them."

5. "Easing the difficulty of poor people, farmers is among my top priorities."

6. "The country has benefited from social distancing and lockdown. Yes, we had to pay a price but that's not more important than saving the lives of Indians."

7. "India didn't wait for the crisis to aggravate. Many developed nations are facing challenges in fighting against the spread... statistics are a proof".

8. "You people have helped save the nation. I am aware of the challenges you all are facing. Some of you are away from home, others are finding challenges in getting food, other essentials. I bow to all of you."

9. "Our resolve to fight the pandemic is true tribute to Baba Saheb Ambedkar. The country has shown 'we the people of india' spirit during lockdown."
