PM Modi gifted vests to South Korean President as ‘Modi jacket;'Twitterati said ‘this is not Modi’s vest’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi many times gifted some precious and traditional items of India to world leaders like US President Donald Trump, Barack Obama, Shinzo Abe and many others. Now, he has sent a gift to the South Korean President Moon Jae-in, vests.

However, his gift has created a buzz on the micro-blogging site like Twitter. Netizens are describing the jacket in their own way.


On Friday, the company had also come forward and clarified about the vests that have been gifted to the South Korea president. The company justified by saying that ‘originally, these were 'bandhgala' (closed neck) jackets. They were worn by Nehru and even Sardar Patel. But the ones we sell are Modi Jackets. It is a bit longer and more comfortable in fit than Nehru Jackets," said Bipin Chauhan, managing director of JadeBlue Lifestyle India which sent the vests to the South Korean leader.

He also added that the older versions of the jackets were sold in off-white and black colours while the jackets that PM Modi used to wear is a wider colour palette. The manager also said that ‘Modiji has created a brand and also such kind of vests become popular after 2014 when PM Modi become a PM.

Chauhan also said that he has been designing and making PM Modi’s clothes since 1989.
However, Moon Jae took to Twitter and shared his photo wearing the jacket gifted by PM Modi on 31st October.

Moon Jae also wrote, 'Prime Minister @narendramodi of India sent me some gorgeous garments. These are modernized versions of traditional Indian costume, known as the ‘Modi Vest’, that can also be worn easily in Korea. They fit perfectly.'

 

As soon as this tweet come to light, netizens started reminding about the jacket and said that 'this is not Modi's jacket as this Nehru jacket.'
