PM Modi gets emotional while talking about his mother at the Facebook campus

Prime Minister Narendra Modi got emotional at the Facebook campus on 27 September while talking about his 95-year-old mother, Heeraben Modi.

"When we were small, to sustain us she cleaned dishes, filled water, did hard labour at the neighbours' houses. You can imagine how a mother, just to raise her kids, underwent so many hardships," Modi spoke haltingly as he tried to control his tears, amid a hushed silence at the event.

After a pause, he slowly regained his composure, observing, "It's not just the case with Narendra Modi, many mothers in India sacrifice their entire lives for their children. A mother will never want you to become something, she will think about how you will achieve that."

He added, "My mother is over 90 years. Even today, she does all her work on her own. She isn't educated but because of television she is updated with what is happening in the world."

Prime Minister Modi has always expressed affection and respect for his mother. After the BJP achieved a landslide victory in the 2014 General Elections, he went to his hometown to meet his mother.
