Nagla Phatela village says no electricity, PMO quickly deletes own Tweet!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 90-minute long Independence Day speech has become quite the talking point.

While both the Congress and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party took digs at PM Modi saying the speech should win a Olympic gold for being the most boring speech, the PMO deleted a tweet which turned out to be controversial in nature.

PM Modi, in his speech, spoke about his government's achievements and claimed huge success in bringing electricity to a large number of villages - he took this pledge in on Independence Day speech in 2015.

This Independence Day, he said, "Out of 18,000 villages, more than 10,000 villages have been electrified. The village of Nagla Fatela is only three hours from Delhi, but it took more than 70 years for it to get electricity. I have been told they are with us, watching this celebration of Independence Day."

Modi's official Twitter handle @PMOIndia tweeted a photo of group of people allegedly sitting in Nagla Fatela village and watching his speech on a TV set.

His tweet said, "People of Nagla Phatela watching the Independence Day celebrations for the first time. More power to them. :)"

Union power minister, Piyush Goel, also seconded PM Modi by posting photos on Twitter which claimed that people are their newly- electrified villages. However, spoiling the party, the villagers of Nagla Fatela disposed the claims made by PM Modi and Goel and said the photo with children watching the Independence Day programme did not belong to "our village".

The village head of Nagla Fatela said, "No programme was organised in our village. The picture with children watching the Independence Day programme does not belong to our village."

Villagers also claimed that the white poles and electricity metres were installed but there was no power supply.

Reacting to the situation, the Union Power Ministry quickly issued a clarification in a press release titled Electrification of Village Nagla Fatela, Hathras -Facts at a Glance.

Issuing the clarification, the minister might have just caused more embarrassment as the statement reads that a false claim was made on the electrification of Nagla Phatela.
