Mission Shakti: Do you know about ‘LEO’ that PM Modi talked about in his speech?

PM Modi has finally raised the curtain from the suspense that he has created today on his official Twitter handle by saying that he would deliver some important message.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed to the nation and said that India has shot down a satellite in the Low Earth Orbit (LEO). He also congratulated scientists for their successful Mission Shakti operation.


 

In his around 10 minutes speech, he discussed the achievement of Indian scientists who quickly came into action and shot down the spy satellite in the space.

Here’s what one should know about Low Earth Orbit that PM Modi talked about his addressed today:

 

Leo is an Earth-centred orbit with an altitude of 2,000 km or less (approximately one-third of the radius of Earth).

Most of the manmade objects in space are in LEO. Also, most of the military satellites are in this orbit.

In Terms Of Definition, Altitude Are Inherently Ambiguous And Most Of Them Fall Within The Range Specified By An Orbit Period Of 128 Minutes. As Kepler’s Third Law, This Corresponds To Semi-Major Axis Of 8,413 km (5,228 mi).

After this successful mission, India has become the fourth nation after the United States of America, Russia and China, who have the capability of shooting down satellites in the Lower Earth Orbit (LEO).
