Mecca mosque tragedy: Death toll mounts to 107, two Indians dead

At least 107 people were killed when a construction crane crashed crashed onto Mecca's Grand Mosque on Friday, 11 September. The incident happens less than two weeks before Islam's annual haj pilgrimage. Two Indians belonging from Kerala have been declared dead by the Ministry of External Affairs.

At least 238 people were wounded, Saudi Arabia's Civil Defence body said. At least 15 Indians have been injured as per the fresh reports.

"Our Consulate in Jeddah is monitoring situation in Makkah following tragic accident. We have received reports that 9 Indian pilgrims are injured," Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

He said senior Indian officers, including the Consul General, are in Mecca and Indian doctors deployed in all government hospitals are trying to get more information.

Vice President Hamid Ansari expresshred grief over the tragic incident. The Vice President has called for every effort to render all possible help to the injured. He conveyed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of injured.
