A 55-year-old man allegedly raped his stepdaughter repeatedly over a period of four years in Nallasopara, Palghar.

According to the police, the victim has been subjected to rape since August 2012 when she started staying alone at her home. Her stepfather had threatened to kill her if she revealed anything, police said.

The heinous crime came to light when the 18-year-old victim finally mustered the courage to lodge a police complaint on 28 August, they said.

After the complaint, Tulinj police launched a hunt for the accused, who has been absconding.

Police have booked the accused under relevant sections the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
