Kargil war retired Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 fighter jet found listed on OLX for sale at Rs 9.99 crore

Kargil war-retired Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 fighter jet, placed at the Aligarh Muslim University campus, was found in a list on OLX for sale at a price of Rs 9.99 crore. Soon after the information started going rife on the internet, the OLX ad, selling MiG fighter jet, was deleted from the site.

On the OLX website, the ad displayed a picture of the MiG-23BN fighter jet, its price and a three word description, which read 'best fighter plane'.

The aircraft was gifted to the Aligarh Muslim University by the Indian Air Force in the year 2009. The university has sought an investigation into the matter to find out who created the ad on OLX.

Talking to ANI, the university proctor has alleged that it was an attempt to malign the reputation of the university.

The university has also stated that it would take legal action against the person (s) who made the advertisement on global online marketplace.

"The post on OLX about the sale of aircraft installed in the campus is wrong. University has not taken any step to auction or sell it. We are looking into the matter. It's an attempt to defame the university: Mohd Wasim Ali, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Proctor (03.08.2020)

According to report in Times of India the engineering students at AMU study about the aircraft's parts, technology, and design.
