J&K: One policeman killed in encounter with militants in Shopian

A policeman was killed while one other was injured after some militants attacked a police post in Shopian district of south Kashmir.

According to media reports, the militants opened fired at the police who tried to repulse their rifle-snatching bid at minority police post.

Meanwhile, the ongoing uprising in Kashmir crossed the 90-day mark on 6 October, even as protests and clashes continued in several areas.

The separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, who are spearheading the ongoing agitation in Valley, have called for UN march.

Ever since the encounter of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani on 8 July, as many as 93 people have been killed and more than 13,000 have been injured.

The use of much criticised and debated pellet guns have resulted into over 1,000 sevre eye injuries.
