Locals and non-Kashmiri students allegedly clashed on 18 April at Jammu and Kashmir's Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University. Several vehicles were reportedly torched in the violence.

The situation in valley has remained critical since 12 April, when four people died in Handwara after the Army opened fire on a mob protesting the alleged molestation of a young girl by an Army man. The curfew was lifted early on 18 April but was reimposed following news of the unrest at the university.

Amid tension, mobile internet services were restored in Kashmir on Monday, after being suspended for almost a week in the wake of protests in connection to the Handwara incident.
