The Income Tax department raided the residence of Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi’s Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot in connection with a tax evasion case.
The IT department has conducted searches and raids at around 16 locations in Delhi and Gurgaon and has seized Rs 35 lakh in cash and documents related to ‘Benami Properties’ of multiple accommodation and assets were allegedly recovered by the officials.
The raid has been continuing since last 48 hours and it even continued today in his residence at South Extension.
Among the properties raided are Gahlot's residence, and companies like Brisk Infrastructure and Developers Ltd and Corporate International Financial Services Ltd, which belong to the AAP MLA.
AAP MLA Nitin Tyagi, who met Gahlot at his residence earlier today, said that even after raiding the minister's residence for over 48 hours, the IT department has been unable to find anything.
It has been more than 2 days that IT people raided @kgahlot flat in vasant kunj. But it seems there is some ulterior motive also as now they are just not leaving. This is harassment at it's lowest.— Nitin Tyagi (@NitinTyagiAAP) October 12, 2018
BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi replied to the allegations of AAP stating that “Mr Corrupt has increased corruption in Delhi by leaps and bounds and this has overshadowed governance. The AAP’s leadership is being questioned because it is one man’s party indulging in corrupt practice and filling the coffers of his own family and people around him.”
