The Electronics and Information Technology ministry has made a decision to bar several more mobile applications, primarily of Chinese origin, official well informed about the matter stated.

The applications such as Helo Lite, ShareIt Lite, Bigo Lite and VFY Lite — have been pulled off from the Google playstore and Apple app store, the officials said.

The government of India had, in much the same move last month, barred 59 applications, which included popular video app TikTok, in the backdrop of a India-China standoff in Galwan Valley, in which 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives.

While, banning the applications, the Indian government had stated that they were detrimental to sovereignty, integrity and security of the nation.

“The apps were found to be operating despite the ban via these versions,” a MEITY official said. “They have been taken down from application stores.”
