Gangster Ajay Kumar of Sonepat, who was accused of killing an Army officer's father and brother, was shot dead on Thursday in an encounter with the Haryana Police in Jagaram Tirath village in Bathinda district.

Ajay Kumar alias Kannu's three accomplices, who were travelling with him in a car, have been arrested.

The quartet was being chased by Haryana Police and was cornered by the cops at Jagaram Tirath village in Talwandi Sabo sub-division.

The police claimed that an encounter ensued as the gangsters fired at the police party.

There was a reward of Rs 5 lakh on Kumar.

According to reports, he was injured during the encounter and was being taken to a hospital in Bathinda when he succumbed to his injuries.

On 12 May, Kumar killed Major Sushil Chikkara's father Jagbir Singh, 57, and brother Anil Chhikara, 25, as they hadn't voted for the goon's brother in the panchayat election.

According to reports, the incident took place despite the police being informed about the threat to the Army officer's family members.
