Gurugram: gangrape victim denies assault, medical reports say otherwise

Speed News Desk | Updated on: 10 February 2017, 1:50 IST

A woman, who was reportedly drugged and gangraped by 20 men in Gurugram last week, has denied the charges before a magistrate. However, her medical reports have confirmed rape.

It is believed that the woman was forced to retract her statement after being pressurised by village elders and families of accused. However, the police have said that her reason for denial is yet to be determined.

"Local police conducted a medical examination of the victim, which confirmed rape," India Today quoted Hawa Singh, ACP (crime) and spokesperson of Gurugram police.

The police said that the incident occurred on the night of 23 April when the victim was asleep at her house. She was taken to an isolated place by three men, who covered her face with a handkerchief and waited for her to lose consciousness. The other accused were already present at the spot and they took turns to rape her.

The woman had approached police with her husband despite facing protests from other villagers.
