Gurmehar row: Haryana Minister Anil Vij sticks to his 'pro-Pakistan' remark

Even as Haryana`s Health Minister Anil Vij`s recent remark against Kargil braveheart Captain M. Singh`s daughter Gurmehar Kaur, along with the ongoing Jat agitation, triggered a ruckus that lasted for over two hours in the Budget session of Haryana Assembly on Thursday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader unrelentingly stood by his word.

"I fully stand by what I said. Those opposing it in the assembly have no understanding. They are siding with anti-national forces," Vij told ANI.

Vij had branded people supporting Kargil braveheart Captain M. Singh's daughter Gurmehar Kaur as 'pro-Pakistan'.

"Those supporting Gurmehar Kaur are pro-Pakistan and therefore, such people should be thrown out of the country," Vij had said.

Kaur, who is a Delhi University student, posted a message against the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on social media that led to several groups and celebrities raising voices for and against her in equal numbers.

Clashes had erupted last week after the ABVP allegedly manhandled and thrashed students protesting the cancellation of an event at Ramjas College at which controversial JNU student Umar Khalid was scheduled to speak.
