Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad chaired a meeting with Congress leaders on 30 August, where they discussed the impact of the Kashmir unrest.

After the meeting, Azad said, "If the government would have accepted our suggestions earlier to hold the all-party meeting and the visit of all of party delegation to Kashmir, then the curfew which is lifted after 52 days, would have been lifted after 12 days and the number of lives lost and people who got injured from pellet guns would have been less."

He said the government must have talks with other political parties, whether mainstream or non-mainstream and must try to find out a permanent solution as per the Constitution to restore normalcy in Kashmir.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh will lead an all-party delegation to Jammu and Kashmir on 4 September to meet a cross-section of people and organisations to restore peace in the Kashmir valley.

Curfew was lifted from the Kashmir valley after fifty-one days on 29 August, which was imposed after Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani was killed on 8 July.

Singh visited Srinagar last week to review security in Kashmir and asked Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to prepare grounds for an all-party delegation to visit the valley.
