Former SC Judge Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose appointed as India's first Lokpal

Former Supreme Court Judge Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose has been appointed as India's first Lokpal or the anti-corruption ombudsman on Tuesday. Justice PC Ghose's appointment has been cleared by President Ram Nath Kovind.

The other members of the Lokpal includes four judicial members, Justice Dilip B Bhosale, Justice P K Mohanty, Justice Abhilasha Kumari and Justice AK Tripathi as.

Former SSB chief Archana Ramasundaram and former Maharashtra Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar Jain have been named non-judicial members of Lokpal, PTI reported.

Justice PC Ghose served as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, and before that, as a Justice of the Calcutta High Court. At present he is a member of the National Human Rights Commission.

A high-level selection committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, the panel’s “eminent jurist member”, cleared Justice Ghose’ name at its meeting Friday, reports Indian Express. Mallikarjun Kharge, who is also a part of the committee, did not attend the meeting.
