Bharatiya Janata Party Leader Dayashankar Singh was released from Mau district jail on Sunday after getting bail the day before.
An FIR was lodged against Dayashankar on July 20 for abusive remarks against BSP supremo Mayawati under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He was also expelled from the BJP the same day.
Singh on July 26 moved the Allahabad High Court bench seeking a stay on his possible arrest and challenging the FIR lodged against him by BSP leaders for using "derogatory" language against BSP supremo Mayawati.
He was arrested on July 29 from Buxar in Bihar.
Following his release, Dayashankar expressed relief. "My wife and daughter are not well, will go to Lucknow straight away, to meet my family," he said.
