The Government of India has set up a committee to prepare a policy framework for taxi and other transport operators.
"The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has constituted a three-member committee to prepare a policy framework for taxi and other transport operators," a statement from the ministry said.
The panel will be headed by Sanjay Mitra, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and will have Joint Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways and Delhi Transport Commissioner as its members.
A group of taxi and other transport operators had met Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday, briefing him of the situation and various problems that emerged following the Supreme Court's order of 15 December, 2015, and Environmental Pollution Prevention and Control Authority (EPCA) direction on 29 April, on banning diesel taxis in the NCR.
The three-member committee has been set up to look into these issues and come up with appropriate policy recommendations to address the same in a time-bound manner, the statement said.
