Depression crosses coast near Puducherry says IMD, heavy rains likely

The deep depression over Bay of Bengal tonight crossed the Tamil Nadu coast near Puducherry at 7.30 pm, the India Meteorological Department said.

"Latest coastal and radar observation indicates that the the deep depression moved northwards and crossed north Tamil Nadu coast near Puduchery around 1930 hours IST (7.30 pm) today with a wind speed of 55-65 kmph," IMD said in a bulletin.

The Regional Meteorological Centre said that the north east monsoon, which brings 48 per cent of Tamil Nadu's rains, has gone 'vigorous' over the state even as it forecast more showers for Tuesday, on the Diwali day.

Isolated heavy rain would occur over north Tamil Nadu and Puducherry tomorrow.
