Exiled Tibetan leader Dalai Lama has been admitted in Mayo Clinic at Minnesota, US, following a routine check-up. Reportedly, he is still hospitalised.

Doctors have advised the 80-year-old Buddhist leader to rest for a few weeks. The Dalai Lama was scheduled to visit various universities and schools across the United States in October. Those programmes now stand cancelled.

"Doctors have advised His Holiness to rest for the next several weeks. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused by this decision and apologize to all the people who have worked so hard in organising the visit as well as to the public," his office said in an official statement.

The Dalai Lama has been living in exile at Dharmshala, India, since 1959 after the Chinese captured Tibet. Tenzin Gyatso is the 14th Dalai Lama of the Tibetans.
