Missing Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Najeeb Ahmad was on anti-depressants for insomnia and obsessive compulsive disorder and was emotionally disturbed as well, the Delhi Police reportedly said.

Najeeb was a 27-year-old MSc student who went missing on 15 October and since then massive protests are being held by students.

Students who were protesting at India Gate against authorities' inaction were detained by the Delhi Police along with Najeeb's mother Fatima Nafees and sister.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the police checked the prescriptions from the doctor who Najeeb allegedly visited thrice in two weeks for treatment, before he went missing .

The report suggested that Najeeb may have been emotionally disturbed. As per the police, Najeeb may have left the JNU hostel voluntarily.

Following these reports, Najeeb's mother has denied that he was on medication for depression or had any neurological problems.
